Your Lvov site is a terrific source for information. Unfortunately,my
father
was four years old when he left Lemberg in 1905, and couldn't remember
anything about the city. My grandfather died before I ever becameso
interested in our family history, and I therefore, regret not havingasked
more of him.
The family name of Goldner was said to originally be some variantof Parnes,
Parness or Parnis. My grandfather's (or greatgrandfather's) generationrenamed
themselves back in Austria-Hungary as Goldner, after a "g'veer"(an important
individual) of Lemberg. The reasons for the name change areno longer known.
We're Jewish, but I've come across Goldners who are Christian.
>
My grandfather Elias was born in Lemberg in 1870 to Wolf Zev. Wedon't know
Elias' mother's name. Elias was a grain dealer, buying fromfarmers and selling
to wholesalers.
>
Elias married Leja Krumztock, daughter of Reb Mo(i)she Daniel Krumztockof
Warsaw. (The family name may have been spelled Kramsztyk.) Leja's
mother'smaiden name may have been Blume. Either Leja or Elias came from a
familywith an innkeeper.
>
Elias emigrated to Philadelphia in 1903. The name Wisloboki, not Lemberg,
appears on the ship's log as the city of origin and is repeatedon my
father's naturalization papers. Perhaps Wisloboki was a neighborhoodin, or
suburb of, Lemberg. My grandfather sent for his family in 1905.
>
Does these names sound familiar to any Galizianers? Does anyone knowwhat or
where Wisloboki was back at the turn of the century?

Thank you for putting up this informativesite. Like
many others in this guestbook, I am
interested in searching my roots. I learned that my
grandfather's family came from Lemburg originally. Theyemigrated to the
USA some time before WorldWar 1. Apparently they were some kind of
innkeepersat the end of the 19th century and I remember hearing that
KaiserWilhelm had stopped at the inn.
>
Does anyone know the name "Springer" or, originally,"Spruenger"? My
grandmother's familywas "Tishler", also from the area, I believe.
Can someonedirect me to additional sites I
can search?

I was wondering who I wouldcontact when
looking for my great
grandmothers family. There is a possibility that shemight have come
from Lviv. Her name was Marianna Deregielambo. She marrieda Roch Zima. Their
daughter, in turn, married my grandfather in the USA.They were both from small
villages in what is now Southern Poland, outsideof Krosno, Jasionka and
Lubatowa. It is not usual for people with Italiansurnames to be found in this
area., I'm guessing thatMarianna's fatherwas some type of travelling
artisan, painter, stone mason, or horsethief. God only knows. Please let me
know of who I might contact in Lvivthat might shed some light on the matter.
Sincerely, Paul P. Valtos (Woltusz*)

I have started a search on my father's family. I am told they
came from
Lemberg or a town nearby named Przemyslana. I believe, if my
recollection
of what has been told to me, my grandfather, Meier(spelling)was a
beer
distributor and was on the City Coucil of Lembergin the early
1900's. My
grandmother, Taube, came to the US after WWII.
>
I did locate a listing of names from towns under
"poland/austria/russia"
where there was a listing of surnames, given names, year, "akt" (?)
and type
(Marraige, Birth, Death) which I cannot seem to getback
to. The name was
not listed as Zell but as Joel. I presume thatthe latter name
may be
pronounced as we pronounce the former with a soft"zed".
Is this so? If
so, then the name may have been changed when my fathercame to the US
in
1910/11/12(?).
Is there an on-line date file where I can getcloser to the
information I'm
looking for?

Hi ! I really don't know, whether I should useEnglish or
rather try
it out in Russian, but as I believe , not everybodyhere is either
Ukrainian (sorry, can't do it on my Netscape e-mail)or Russian
speaker
(KOI-8) , I'll go into English.
Yeah, really tnx for Lvov's page. I left it at 1974and was quite
eager to see it again - and I did it twice, bringingthe second time
my
older boy for his bar-mitzva trip to see the beautiesof my home
town. Even
though it was somewhat dirty and drab,-I still wasproud of it. By
the
way, I'm 52nd school 1970 graduate and my Englishteacher was
Yekaterina
Vasilyevna (don't remember her surname, but if shestill leaves - can
smbdy give her a kiss on my behalf?)
My only hope for Lviv is that city's fathers willcome to their
senses, will recall the city's international characterdespite the
bad blood
between ukrainians, russians, jews and poles, willtame the most
outrageous nationalists, will stop looking for theirown immediate
good and will
start pouring more effort and vigor into re-makingof Lviv.

IT IS EXTREMELY NICE TO SEE SOME INFORMATION ABOUTMY OLD HOME TOWN.
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BOY,WE WERE ALL PROUD OF THE FACTTHAT OUR CITY WAS
CONSIDERED AS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES IN EUROPE.THEREWERE MANY WELL
KEPT PARKS WITHIN THE CITY WHERE LOCAL PEOPLE COULD ENJOYMOMENTS OF RELAXATION
AND ADMIRE GARDENS FULL OF FLOWERS AND A VARIETYOF TREES. SOME OF THE PARKS
WERE ALSO AVAILABLE DURING WINTER MONTHS FORSKIING AND SLEDGING. ONE REMARKABLE
FACT ABOUT THE CITY, WHICH WAS NOTGENERALLY KNOWN, IS THAT WERE THREE
ARCHBISHOPS RESIDING WITHIN IT'S BOUNDARIES.THERE WAS ROMAN CATHOLIC,GREEK
CATHOLIC, AND ARMENIAN CATHOLIC. THE CITYALSO BOASTED OF TWO MAJOR EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEMS; THE UNIVERSITY OF LWOW ANDLWOW POLYTECHNIC. THERE WERE ALSO TWELVE
HIGH SCHOOLS AND ONE PRIVATE SECONDARYSCHOOL, TO PROVIDE EDUCATION FOR YOUNG
MEN AND WOMEN OF THE CITY AND THESURROUNDING AREA.
