Subject: DICKER
My grandmother was Hannah Dicker, who was born outside Lvov is 1872. Her mother was Tovah, and her father, perhaps Lieb. He was killed at a work accident at a very young age, but my great grandmother lived until sometime in the 1920s. She had two other children, a son who moved to California, and a son who (I think) moved to Budapest to attend the Baron Hirsch school. My grandmother married Abraham Hessel from Kovno and moved to America in 1891.
Does anyone remember a Dicker family outside of Lvov?

Subject: Tracing relatives from Lviv.
From Ann Houliston, Edinburgh, Scotland, Hi Nick, great site, just what I have been looking for and more, I am trying to trace any relatives or family of my father. His name was Edward Schenhofer who was born in Lviv in 21.2.1910.His father was Fryderyk Schenhofer who was also born in Lviv. His mother was Zofia Wroblewska from the village of Kleparow. He came to Scotland with the Polish army with his brother Fryderyk. I think he went to France after the war but do not know if he settled there. I think his brother Fryderyk went to Italy where he became a priest. I hope someone out there can help as I am slowly running out of time. Hoping to visit your beautiful city next year. Thank you very much for this oportunity to help my search.

Hi, I am getting married next year and am trying to incorporate our family trees into our day. The only problem is I can't find any information about my fiancee's surname Onyszkanycz. His grandfather was Nicholas Onyszkanycz born in Jawornik or Sanok August 14,1907. He came to Canada in 1939, but shortened his last name to Ony. Does anyone have any information about Jawornik, a village crest for example or anything about the family name Onyszkanycz?

Hi I am trying to research the family tree, and I came upon your site. I am trying to see if I have any living relatives left in Poland, or if anyone has any info about them! My Grandmother was Marya Guzik/Guziak, she and her sister Teresa Guziakowna(notice the spelling discrepancies) came to America in 1914 & 1913. There was a brother who came to America, and returned to Poland, story is, he didn't like it here, well, you can't please everyone! Their father was Andrew, and Mother Anna Domin. Anna Domin ran a bakery in Harta! I am also looking for my Grandfather, who was from an area phonetically pronounced "itch-ka", his name was Gustav Olszewski! I have found some of my relatives on the http://www.ellisislandrecords.com site, but not all! We also have a Piotor Wasylewski who married Teresa Guziakowna, and my father, Alexander Kustowski (brother of Stanislaus) they were reportedly from Gdansk!
I would appreciate any help!
Thank you

I am an American with family roots from Jasionka, Turka District, Galicia. My great-grandparents were Wasyl Hajtko and his wife Paraska Lepak HAJTKO. They had six children (1870s to 1890s) that I know of...Justyna, Natalia, Anna, Stefan, Julia, and Mary. Mary Hajtko was my grandmother. Some emigrated to the U.S. 1900-1920s; others stayed in Europe. In 1946 the rest of these Hajtkos were resettled to Ukraine...some to L'viv (Lvov).

In a message from Lalex3094$$$aol.com on March 14, 1999, someone asked for details about Bernard Gems from Lemberg. My mother is most probably his first cousin. She was born in the village of Zulkiew or Zolkwa outside Lemberg. Her father was Pesach Gems, and she had at least one uncle in Lemberg, whom she hardly knew. But she stayed there for a while when she went to study against her fathers' will. The E-mail address Lalex3094$$$aol.com does probably not exist anymore. How can I get in contact with the one who sent the message?

Following my previous e-mail, I would like to visit Lviv later this year/early next year to hopefully find a record of my father's birth in Lviv, and perhaps to find some relatives. Is it safe for a woman in her forties to stay in Lviv, and if so, could anyone suggest a pleasant hotel? How could I find someone who would be prepared to help me find my way around the city and to find this information? I would of course be happy to pay a suitable fee. By the way, I mis-spelt my father's name - it is Vladimir Cornilius von Schultz Hercanowski.
I look forward to someone replying to this e-mail. Regards and best wishes.

Subject: Tracing my relatives from Lviv region
I am so thrilled to have found your web page. For some time I have been
anxious to trace my roots, and I do hope that someone will be able to help me.
My late father's name was Vladimir Cornilius von Schulz Herczanowski (I think
this is the correct spelling!). He was born in Lvov around 1887-9 (23
February). He had a sister called Natalia, and maybe one called Olga, and a
little brother called Pieter. His father might have been called Basil and
mabye was a schoolmaster. I know he lived in a big house with several
servants. He was a medical student in Budapest. His parents died whilst he
was away studying, so I think.
My father spoke Polish, Ukrainian, German and Hungarian.
Could anyone help me to find out about his family, and to find out if I have
any living relatives?
thank you.

My father was Dimitro Humeniuk, who came to England in (I think) 1947. I believe he was born in 1927, although he was known to give 1925 as his year of birth when it suited him!. He couldn't be drawn on his family; all I know is that he came from a village near Lviv, and I believe that he ran away from home when he was 14 and, like many Ukrainian nationalists, joined the German army. He said that he had an older brother and sister called Basil and Ann. I think the family were in some way connected with a paper mill.
I'm just beginning to take active steps to find out more about the Ukrainian side of my family - if anyone out there knows anything that might help me, please get in touch.
Many thanks.
